The First meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Escazú Agreement (COP 1) will take place April 20-22, 2022 at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) headquarters in Santiago, Chile. The goal of this meeting is to review the state of the Agreement’s implementation and move forward on making it operational.

The opening session will be held at 9 a.m. local time in Chile (GMT -4) on Wednesday, April 20. It will include Gabriel Boric, President of Chile; Epsy Campbell Barr, Vice President of Costa Rica (speaking virtually); Cecilia Nicolini, State Secretary for Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Innovation of Argentina; Andrea Sanhueza and Karetta Crooks-Charles, elected representatives of the public; and Mario Cimoli, Acting Executive Secretary of ECLAC, the organization that serves as the Escazú Agreement’s Secretariat..

Participants will include high government representatives from several countries of the region, agencies, United Nations funds and programs, international financial institutions and development banks, regional and sub-regional integration organizations, civil society, the parliamentary world, academia and the private sector, both from the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and other regions of the world.

Live broadcast

The official event activities will be broadcast live on our platform at https://live.cepal.org/escazu/ (with English interpretation available).  Any media outlet or organization is free to replicate the broadcast on their own web portals.

The main session will also be rebroadcast live on the ECLAC official website (https://www.cepal.org/en) and on the event site (https://acuerdodeescazu.cepal.org/cop1/en).
